We are excited to announce our USD 258 Kansas Teacher of the Year nominee, Mrs. Mikaela Walden. Mrs. Walden has been teaching at Humboldt Elementary School for 7 years, with 6 years in 1st grade and is currently teaching 2nd grade. Here are what others had to say about Mikaela:
🧡 Mrs. Walden has made a lasting impact on our daughter’s life. She is often remembered and talked about as a teacher who truly made a difference—not only academically, but also in building confidence and fostering a love of learning. We are deeply grateful for the dedication, compassion, and excellence she brings to her students.
🖤 Mikaela not only provides a loving, caring, safe, and FUN learning environment for her students every single day, but she also offers meaningful and effective instruction every single moment. She uses even the smallest moment such as walking in the hallway to practice skills in a fun way. Mikaela is always reflecting and collaborating with peers to best meet the needs of all of her students. Her vibrant personality is contagious and you can feel it when you walk into her inviting classroom.
Congratulations, Mrs. Walden and thank you for all that you continue to do for the students in USD 258!

Congratulations to all of the talented students who auditioned. You all made it really hard to narrow the cast size down. Mr. Jones and Mrs. Buchanan would like to meet with those who made it in the cast on Wednesday at 3:40 PM about rehearsals.

Congratulations to our 2025 fall, HES StuCo members. Students completed an application, then these 10 students interviewed for positions. We planned on choosing 5, but they all did amazing and we couldn't narrow down the selections. We are excited for their leadership to positively impact our school!

The final Constitution Day activity is usually a scavenger hunt created by former MS social studies teacher, Scott Brady. Adverse weather forced us inside so kids enjoyed a historical-themed movie and pizza lunch from Opies.

Constitution Day part 2. Mr. Fehr leads mixed groups in the creation of a country, bill of rights, and a flag. Students also had to declare their countries' main export and form of government.

Thirty-two HHS student journalists attended the 2025 KSPA Fall Conference at KU today, where we received the program’s 15th consecutive state trophy. This is one of the largest groups in Humboldt history to attend fall conference. Students had an amazing time learning from journalists, professors, professionals and more.

🎉 Throwback Thursday Fun! 🎉
Miss Guiot put together a fantastic “Throwback Thursday” game where students had to guess which staff member matched the baby and “embarrassing” pictures. Lots of laughs were shared, and a few sharp-eyed students came out on top!
👏 Congratulations to our winners, who each received a Sonic drink courtesy of Miss Guiot.

Check out some amazing art projects! Our young artists have been hard at work learning about the Elements of Art and have created some truly inspiring pieces. Let's take a moment to celebrate their hard work and creativity!

Are you always being told that you are very dramatic? Have you been told that you should join the theater? This is your chance. On Tuesday, September 23rd, from 3:30-5:30, and Wednesday, September 24th, from 4:30-6:30, will be the all-school musical auditions. If you or your student is interested in being a part of the show but does not want to audition, please also contact Mr. Jones at logan.jones@usd258.net.

Is my Community Service eligible for the Humboldt Promise?
A lot of people have been asking, so you will now see this poster all around school explaining what activities count towards your Community Service for the Humboldt Promise scholarship.
We will have lots of organized Community Service to get involved in, but if you want to come up with something yourself it needs to be approved IN ADVANCE by the Promise Coordinator Ms. Helen Kenny. Email info@humboldtpromise.org to get your ideas pre-approved.
