Sports Complexes
Humboldt school district sports facilities are out of date. The conditions
of the football, baseball, and track are falling behind other Tri Valley League
schools. With the addition of a new quality sports complex the players will
compete at a higher level, knowing that they are playing on the best. Our
school district needs a new sports complex for football, baseball, and track.
The football stadium
that was state of the art in the 1930’s has become obsolete. The stadium
doesn’t have enough room for the fans to hold a sub-state or state football
game because of KSHAA rules and regulations. The field is in bad shape. It
is flat rather than having the desired crown. The field also has potholes.
Another problem is that it’s also connected to the baseball field. That
is a problem because the players have to put up and take down the fences before
and after the football season.
The baseball complex
we have is pretty good but it could also use some work. The TVL schools are
going to grass infields. We don’t have one. The baseball field could
use a nine-inning scoreboard to show all the runs scored in each inning instead
of the total game. Water fountains would be a nice addition. They would eliminate
the use of water coolers. For safety, the dugouts also could be enclosed so
that foul balls don’t hit the players, coaches, or managers.
The track and field area
in our district is in very bad condition. At one time the track was cinder
but now is overgrown with grass. Humboldt can’t hold track meets because
of the condition of the track. Other schools in the TVL have all weather tracks.
An all-weather track in Humboldt would be nice. The field events area is also
in poor condition. The school has one discus arena and one shot put arena.
Most schools have two of each.
Sports facilities are a big part of any town because they represent not only the school but also surrounding business. With our facilities becoming out dated, it is time to plan for the future.
