On Bridge Street, across from Humboldt Middle School, stands a residence that contains a portion of the original foundation and lower walls of the German Evangelical Church, 1860.

Here, after the September raid, Capt. George Miller of the Humboldt Home Guard wisely hid ammunition and supplies. He knew that if the Confederates came back, they would not burn the churches. Fortunately, they never found the ammunition during the October Burning.
