Every year on Valentine’s Day, people present their significant others with assorted gifts of flowers, chocolates, and candy. Occasionally people may go overboard and buy an extravagant gift that is expensive.

Though this is a nice gesture, simple gifts can have an even bigger effect on someone since the best gifts come from the heart. Gifts do not have to be extravagant; they just have to be special.

Young children often make gifts to give their parents or special friends. These come from the heart and the children have fun making them, which is why parents treasure them so much.

Cards with meaningful poems, a surprise dinner, or even a quiet evening alone can be more meaningful than generic gifts. This shows that the giver put thought into the gift.

Buying a significant other something that they can use is better than going with something that will be gone or die in a day or a week.

Good Valentine’s gift ideas for women are spa packages or movie passes. For men, a hoodie with his favorite team’s logo on it is usually a great gift. A homemade meal or going out to eat at his favorite restaurant would also work.

These are good ideas because the aforementioned gifts are things that can actually be put to use by the receiver, and not tossed away then they finally wilt and die.

So this year when standing in the aisle filled with Valentine’s Day gifts, go beyond the generic gifts. Get that special something that will mean more to love ones. Remember, it is the thought that counts - not how much money was spent on it

Pro:Valentine’s Day should be spent with significant other,
no money involved

By Bret Hauser, jr.

Once again it is Valentine’s Day, a day when people go all out and buy their significant others gifts. However, this is absurd. Valentine’s Day should be a day of expressing ones love toward another, not showing off their money.

A common gift on Valentine’s Day is flowers. A bouquet of roses can cost anywhere from $12.99 to over $60. The sad thing is that these flowers will wilt and die within the week. Why would someone spend $60 for something that they will only enjoy for a short while?

Chocolates are another common gift. They usually cost more than $15, and some people probably will not even like all the flavors; plus they are not very healthy at all.

Instead of going all out and spending tons of money on one’s significant other, people should make them something from the heart.

Young children almost always make their parents a card with glitter and hearts. Parents always cherish these and store them away. These cards will last longer than chocolates, and they will not die like the expensive flowers. Another benefit is that it does not cost much money at all.

While Valentine’s Day is an important day meant to show love for ones significant other, people should celebrate it in moderation. There is no point to spend upwards of twenty dollars on something that will die, harm someone’s body or go unappreciated.

However, spending time with loved ones and a small, thoughtful gift that was made personally should be enough to show them that they are loved and cared about.

Con:Buying nice gifts is good way to express love toward one another

Valentine’s Day is a holiday that is meant for people to show their love for each other through gifts. The gifts do not have to be mushy or outrageously expensive, but they should be something nice that shows the other person how much they are loved. I think that everyone should max out on Valentine’s Day to show their love for their better half
.
Buying gifts that the other person has been wanting makes the holiday more special. Valentine’s Day is almost like a second Christmas.

Instead of girls buying their boyfriend/husband a teddy bear or flowers, they can buy their guy tools and a lot of chocolate.

Buying a guy tools or something for their truck is a great idea. This is because the girl knows their guy will be thrilled and actually use the gift. Gifts that can actually be put to use are the most valued.

Guys could buy their special girl tanning minutes or a day at the spa. These gifts are practical and the girl would be happy beyond belief.

Valentine’s Day is also a good excuse to buy and eat candy. Candy is not a hard item to find, as it is in all stores at an abundance during February. Buying a box of chocolates is the best way to show a significant other how much they are loved.

Some people may say that Valentine’s Day is just a waste of money and is solely a commercial holiday, but people cannot spend too much money on the ones they love.

There are only a few days in a year when people get to spoil the one they love. I believe that everyone should go all out and not worry about the cost to show their love and affection to the ones that they adore.

Hotel For Dogs: good children’s movie
By

Walt Disney’s latest animated movie, Hotel For Dogs, was not as good of a movie as I had anticipated it to be. The movie lacked excitement and adventure, as well as creativeness especially for teenagers in the audience.

The actors in the movie played their parts well, not to mention the dogs were adorable. The two main characters in the movie were siblings, Bruce and Andi. Bruce was portrayed by Jake T. Austin and Andi was played by Emma Roberts.

The siblings are children in foster care who secretly take their pet dog with them from foster home to foster home. They eventually have to save their dog, along with many others, from being euthanized or killed.

The commercials for Hotel For Dogs were misleading to me because they show the best parts of the movie, which happen to be the only parts in the movie with excitement in them.

Overall, the movie was mellow, and I was not sure what the climax or the central point of the story’s plot was.

Hotel For Dogs is a good movie for younger children; it is cute, slightly funny, and has animals running around in it. This movie is also child-friendly. There is no questionable content, and it teaches children and older people alike a few good lessons about life.

However as a teenager, this film did not hold my interest. I was looking for an exciting film that was action-packed, creative and hilarious. While I personally found no entertainment merit in the film, I am sure that younger children and their parents may highly enjoy this show.

Overall, Hotel For Dogs was a good film for the younger generations. However, I would not suggest this movie to older audiences who do not have a younger sibling or child to take along with them to the theater.

The movie lacks action, romance, and mature humor.
