With the Cubs ahead 44-30, both teams went into the fourth quarter
ready to roll. Again, the Cubs outscored the Bluestreaks, finishing the game
58-42.
“We have been working on checking off and rebounding [in practice],
and it showed,” said Drake Tilman, sr.
The JV players also got themselves a win. The final score of the game was
31-25.
“We have been working on running our plays and boxing out in practice,
and it showed in the game,” said Elijah Friederich, so. “I feel
we really busted it in the fourth quarter, but we should have been like that
the whole game.”
Tonight the Cubs will travel to Burlington to face the Wildcats.
Making a living at the free throw line, the Neodesha Bluestreaks
defeated the Lady Cubs 55-67 on Feb. 29.
The Bluestreaks made 23 of 34 free throws compared to the Lady Cubs nine of
14.
The disparity proved to be the deciding factor since both teams made an equal
number of shots from the field.
“Free throws win games,” said Jeff Wilkerson, head coach. “The
girls matched them basket for basket and still came up short. The totals were
even except for free throws. I was proud of that. Neodesha is a very good
basketball team, and the girls gave them a run for it.”

in favor of Neodesha put the Lady Cubs in a hole difficult to dig out of.
Down 17-20 at the end of the first quarter, the Lady Cubs were outscored 10-21
in the second quarter as they fell behind 27-41 at the half.
Neodesha increased its lead by four points in the third quarter before the
Lady Cubs made a fourth-quarter run that resulted in the final 12-point margin.
“We played hard the first half. They picked it up in the third,”
said Megan Dillow, jr. “We didn’t give up and kept fighting for
a win despite their lead.”
The Lady Cubs also fell in JV action, losing the two-quarter game 18-23.

Against rival Fredonia, the Cubs managed to maintain a lead
during the game bringing them to a 57-41 win.
The Yellowjackets were shut down in the first quarter by strong Cub defense.
During the first quarter, Zach Cole, sr., led the team with seven.
Cole added four more points in the second as the Cubs increased their lead
to 33-18 at halftime.
“We didn’t play very well on offense, but our defense was good
enough to get the W,” said Tevin Strack, so.
During the second half, Fredonia cut the lead to 14 points. Keeping the
Yellowjackets from getting any closer, Sam Norris, sr., stepped up offensively
in the third quarter scoring 11 of his game-high 21 points.
“I’m not worried about scoring a bunch of points; I’m
just worried about playing good solid team defense and getting a W,”
said Norris.
In the fourth, the Cubs improved their lead 16 points to earn the victory.
The JV team lost 42-62.
