As the end of the season once again draws near, the importance
of Scholar’s Bowl meets grows. The league meet was held at Humboldt
on Jan. 28, hosting both varsity and junior varsity tournaments. Not only
were the teams themselves involved, but also several students and faculty
helped with rounds.
Both the varsity and JV teams received first place. The varsity won with a
record of 5-1 and the JV ended up with three wins and one loss.

Sophomores Alexis Hosack and Bret Hauser solve
a problem for the JV Scholar's Bowl team.
“Some victories are especially sweet; this was one of
those. I’m so proud of the team for stepping up and performing well
under pressure,” said Hailey Schoendaller, coach.
Top scorer on the varsity team was Emily Hauser, sr., answering 22 questions.
She was followed by seniors Daniel Weilert with nine and Phillip Vernon with
eight. Junior Todd Hauser contributed two and senior Deedra Barnett also attended
the meet.
Sophomore Alexis Hosack took home the sign for the JV with her ten questions answered. Sophomores Bret Hauser and Mary Hauser had eight and three questions, respectively. Freshman Riley Herder also attended the meet. This meet marked the end of the JV season.

The varsity team was scheduled to leave school early yesterday for the Regional
meet held at Lyndon. Results were not available at press time.
They need to place at least third in order to attend State competition on
Feb. 9.

Once again, FCCLA is selling Crush cans and carnations to raise
money for the Lindsey Friederich Scholarship Fund.
Order forms may be picked up in the high school office at any time or in Dorothy
Neely’s, club sponsor, room before or after school.
Crush cans are seventy-five cents and carnations are one dollar. Order forms
are due to D. Neely on Feb. 7 and deliveries will be made on Feb. 14 during
eighth hour.
All proceeds will be given to the scholarship fund.
“I hope the students and staff will continue to support Lindsey’s
scholarship fund because it will benefit one of this year’s seniors,”
said D. Neely.
Also, FCCLA District Elections were held on Jan. 30 in Iola.
Sophomores Glendolyn Neely and Mary Hauser ran for District
Office.
Hauser became the vice-president of membership and finances and G. Neely is
now the vice-president of “Power of One” and STAR events.
Both Hauser and G. Neely will be able to help organize next year’s three
district meetings.
“It was fun and a good experience because we got to meet new people,”
said G. Neely. “I’m excited about being able to plan events for
next year and help out with this year’s final event.”
