After a year of not having Senior Lane due to construction, seniors came together Oct. 3 and during seminar on Oct. 10 to paint their names on the street behind the Middle School and Technology Building.

“I think Senior Lane is a fun and interesting opportunity because they give you permission to do something illegal,” said Nicci Greve, sr.

Seniors voted on where to go for senior trip yesterday. A trip to San Antonio and Arlington won by majority.

With 37 members, the LEO club has made an impact on the Humboldt community.

“LEO’s is a great way to get community service hours for college, and it’s a great club to be in,” said Drake Tilman, LEO president.

Members could be seen in the Biblesta celebration as they helped the Lion’s club run a concession stand. In addition, they picked up trash at the football field following Friday’s football game.

“I like to make a difference and contribute to the community, and LEO club gives me the opportunity to do that,” said Elijah Friederich, so.

An additional upcoming project includes collecting 20 ounce water bottles for recycling.

The club also plans to continue their tradition of picking up trash following all home football games as well as participating in a highway cleanup with FFA later in the year.

“Highway cleanup is a good project because it makes our highways look better, and it helps gain a sense of pride for Humboldt,” said Bret Hauser, so.

After a State appearance last year, it is time again for Scholar’s Bowl season. With three returning seniors and an experienced JV squad, this year looks promising for a second trip.

“This year’s team has the potential to be the best one I have ever coached,” said Hailey Schoendaller, coach. “There are several old faces along with some promising new talent. I look forward to working with all of these kids and hope we can do just as well if not better than last year’s trip to State.”

Members currently signed up to compete this year include seniors Daniel Weilert, Philip Vernon, Emily Hauser, Deedra Barnett, Justin Lytle, and Drake Tilman, juniors Todd Hauser, Malachi Melton, and David Setter, sophomores Mary Hauser, Bret Hauser, and Alexis Hosack, and freshmen Riley Herder, Callum Taylor, and Valerie Weilert.

Along with attending several meets at other schools, Humboldt is hosting one for the first time in several years. The Tri-Valley League meet in January will be held at the high school.

The team’s first meet is scheduled for Nov. 5 at Burlington. There are five additional meets currently scheduled with more likely to be added later.
