Mixed results for varsity

Humboldt, April 27 After a change in location, the Humboldt Cubs picked up two wins against the Erie Red Devils.
In the first game, Tory Thomas, sr., pitched nine strike outs and allowed only one hit. Offensively, Thomas led the team with two RBIs followed by Devin Myers, jr., with one. Myers and Thad Wells, so., led the team with two hits apiece. The Cubs won with a score of 7-1
Even though the second game was closer, Humboldt pulled out another win against Erie with a score of 13-11.
On the pitching mound, Wells and Andrew Whitaker, so., had three strike outs and allowed two hits apiece. Thomas followed in pitching by delivering two strike outs and one hit. Bryce Smith, fr., led the team by getting two hits.

The Humboldt Cubs won both games with the scores of 7-1 and 13-11.
Cherryvale, May 5 -Cherryvale, May 5 Making their record 6-7, the Humboldt Cubs lost two games against the Cherryvale Chargers. Thomas pitched four strike outs and allowed two hits during the first game. Drake Tilman, jr., was the only player to receive a hit during the 1-2 loss.
In the second game, Wells picked up three strikes and allowed only two hits. Zartman and Frederick had two hits apiece. The Cubs lost 3-8.
I think the team played well until we got toward the end of the game, said Wells. In game two, we played well until a couple home runs got us down, but we will come back in Regionals.
Neodesha, April 26- Leading the team with three medals including two fourth place medals in javelin and the triple jump and one fifth place medal in the long jump, Zach Cole, jr., helped the boys’ track team to a sixth place finish.
Joab Barr, jr., received third place and Andy Hill, so., received fifth place
in the 3200 meter. Scott Sollars, so., placed fourth in hurdles and Josh Honas,
sr., placed fourth in the 200 meter.
“I think that there were some things that we could improve in, but we
tried our hardest and that is all that matters,” said Barr.
The girls finished in 11th place. Sarah Works, jr., received third place in the 110 meter hurdles. Shelley Herder, so., received a fifth place medal in the high jump event.
Uniontown, April 30- In the JV track meet, Micah Poovey, so., got third place in shot put, Tevin Strack, fr., placed fourth in the long jump. Humboldt also received third place for the 4 X 400 meter relay. The boys JV team ended the meet in sixth place.
“There was not much more we could have done, but we gave it the best shot we could,” said Poovey. “Even though the weather was kind of muggy, it was okay.”
The JV girls got seventh place. Kim Johnston, fr., got third place in shot put and fifth place in discus.
Deedra Barnett, jr., received fourth place in the 100 meter, along with sixth place in both the 400 and 200 meter races.
Humboldt, April 27 –Humboldt, April 27 - Adding two wins to their season record, the Lady Cubs faced the Erie Red Devils in double header. Humboldt won both games with the scores of 11-0 and 7-1.
Lenzie Boring, so., led the team by pitching a five inning shutout, which included seven strikeouts.
In the second game of the evening, Boring pitched a seven inning game that included 11 strikeouts and the other team scored one point.
“We have worked extra hard on our batting this year,” said Boring. “Everyone on our team has had many great hits that have led to our success.”

Cherryvale, May 5 - Traveling to Cherryvale, the Lady Cubs faced the Chargers in another double header. The team brought home two wins with the scores of 7-3 and 8-4.
Boring pitched seven innings in both games and made a home run, a double, and a single in the first game. Britany Sellman, jr., hit three singles in the first game.
Boring also hit two singles and a double in the second game.
JV boys drop two at Colgan tournament

Pittsburg, April 28- In two games in the Pittsburg-Colgan Tournament, the Humboldt JV Cubs were defeated both times. The final scores were 0-15 and 3-15.
In the first game against Parsons, Humboldt did not get any hits.
In the second game at Pittsburg the Cubs faced Fort Scott. Sophomore Troy Davis hit a double.
Freshman Chris Coronado also went 1-3, and freshman Taylor Leeling had two walks
“We didn’t do well at all at the Colgan Tournament. JV has a lot to work on, and it was one of those days that nobody played well,” said Davis. “We could use more pitching. We gave up too many errors. We didn’t hit the ball. These are the keys to baseball, and we need more work in every part of the game.”
Golfers travel to Uniontown; Hebeler takes home seventh

Uniontown, May 4 - Several students attended a golf meet in Uniontown.
Martey Hebeler, jr., shot an 83 which made him eligible for seventh place. A first year golfer, Bret Hauser, fr., shot a 135.
Following B. Hauser were freshmen Brandon Womeldorff, who shot 165, and Mary Hauser who shot a 213.
“I think the meet went well even though I played badly,” said B. Hauser. ”I think I could have done a lot better, and the team could have also because with four people we shot over a 500.”
