Editorial:Summer health advice

For the Editorial Board

Students often come back from the three months of summer vacation out of shape. For some reason, students seem to forget the health rules during the summer.

The Editorial Board feels that it is important to encourage students to have a healthy and active summer.

In the summer, it is very easy to become lazy. However, it could also be very easy to stay active. The weather is usually nice, so take advantage of that. Get outside and get active. Keep in mind that it is good to stay active. It seems that as students get older, they become less active.

For the thirty minutes wasted watching television, think of what activities could go on during that time.

Nobody wants to lose their health over the summer, after it has been going on for eight or nine months.

The Board is not saying “be a health freak and be active all the time.” We are just saying to not forget the priorities of staying fit and healthy.

One way to keep healthy is to not eat junk food all the time. Try eating a sandwich for lunch instead of a snack cake.

Not only does staying healthy include eating right but keeping bodies in standard condition too. Using sunscreen is a good way to do that. Millions of people get skin cancer a year just by not using sunscreen.

The Board feels that the summer is the best time of the year to exercise. The weather is nice, it is not raining or snowing, and occasionally there is a nice wind that comes along. It is time to take full advantage of this time of the year to stay active and healthy. Who knows, there is a chance of having fun in the process.

Educate mind constantly

Before anyone even notices, summer will emerge upon us again. Adults and kids alike will go outside to enjoy whatever activity they partake in. Everyone can have fun and submit themselves to the calm wind and the warm rays of the sun.

However, some students will be oblivious to one small, important thing that needs to be taken into account: their education.

Yes, it is good to know that students are exercising their bodies and are enjoying their hard-earned break after a long, tough school year. Our minds, however, are just as important to be consistently active as our physical bodies are. If teens do not keep up with education over the summer, then they will gradually forget everything that they learned from their previous school year. Many activities can help students keep up on their studies, along with leaving enough time for other things.

Reading favorite books or magazines can aid teens in staying prepared for future English class assignments that will require substantial amounts of reading. Researching various subjects students wish to learn about might help them in the long run as well. Sources for these subjects can range from the Internet to the library. Exercising the mind can also aid teens by taking college classes or tests that take place over the summer break.

All throughout summer vacation, students need to keep up with their education. Student should also thoroughly enjoy their summer breaks. Only with freshly educated minds can students be truly successful not just in school but also in their future lives.

Take time to enjoy summer

Picture a summer filled with books, studying, and where there is no playing and all work. That would defeat the whole purpose of summer.

Summer is a time students should take the opportunity to have fun. It is okay to take a vacation and forget about school for two months, after students spend all the other months in school.

Since students have been working all year long, they deserve a break from all the studying, homework, and tests. Kids should think of summer as a break, after all, it is called summer break. Summer is a time to have fun and forget about school-related things so students come back to school refreshed and ready to work next year.

Youth should enjoy the break that is given to them and enjoy themselves. Summer should be fun because there are a lot of opportunities, such as family vacations, swimming at the pool, and hanging out with friends. With all these activities, there is barely any time to keep up with intellectual exercise.

Teens should not worry about school over the summer. This is a break to enjoy the fun, and forget about school. Even if they forgot a few lessons, that is fine. They can just relearn it when they return to school in the fall.

As the countdown continues to the final bell of the year, students should remain focused on school. After that, they should relax and soak up the summer. Next fall will be here all too soon, so students should enjoy their extra free time and the summer weather while they can.

Review: Inferno connects with Real World, Road Rules
By: Deron Owens

Many people tune into MTV every Tuesday night to watch The Inferno 3. This program has about 20 Real World and Road Rules alumni fighting for a chance to win $400,000.

The way the show goes is there are two teams, the good guys and the bad guys. The two teams will compete in a mission and then nominate someone from the opposite team to the Inferno. The Inferno is an elimination where two people will compete in a game that MTV has designed. The winner gets to stay on the show while the loser is kicked off the show.

Then, there will be a second mission where a player will win a life shield. If the nominated player gains the life shield, he or she picks someone on their team to take their place in the Inferno. If a player who is not nominated wins, he or she can take the nominated player’s place or can just choose not to use it.

To me, this show is appealing because everyone can find someone to relate to. For those who like reality TV with a lot of drama, competition, and crazy personalities, chances are they will probably like this show. My favorites are Jenn, Davis, Janelle, Paula, Susie, Cara and Kenny, because they are good on the show despite all of the drama that happens.

On the first night, the tone for the rest of the show is set. Many arguments break out throughout the cast. When two of the cast members get into an argument it gets too serious and ends up with a fist fight; one of the cast members is sent off for violence.

I think students should watch this show because of all the drama and the crazy things MTV has the people do. Most students will enjoy the show and keep coming back for the next episode.
