Artists medal at Festival

Five students from Humboldt High School placed at the Tri-Valley
Art Festival that took place on April 18. The Art Festival began at 8:30 a.m.
at Norris Gymnasium in Yates Center.
“It was exciting to go and see all of the art there,” said Haley
Huffman, jr.
Huffman brought home a silver and bronze medal for her watercolor painting
of a hat and a guitar. Also Hali Dawson, jr., won a gold medal for her cowboy
metal sculpture.

“Placing was pretty cool, especially when it is a gold,”
said Dawson.
The gold medal was given as a judge award, the silver medal was given as a
faculty award, and bronze was given as a student award.
Hilary Bartlett, sr., brought home a silver medal for a computer graphic.
Also, Dustin Corban, sr., and Tanner Korf, sr., both took home gold medals
for their computer graphics entrees.
“I was flabbergasted when I found out I won something; everyone did
great,” said Korf.

Forensics student places first

While at Anderson County on April 16, the forensics participants
competed in several events. One member placed in her subject.
Emily Hauser, jr., placed seventh at the meet in Interpretation of Poetry.
“Our students are busy with many other spring activities,” said
Gracie Newman, forensics coach. “Hopefully, our three state finalists
will get I ratings at the State Festival.”
The Regional Forensics meet took place at Neodesha on April 21.
Alexis Hosack, fr., placed first for Interpretation of Prose and also for
Humorous Solo Acting. As a result, she had qualified for State in both events.
“I’m really excited for State,” said Hosack. “I’ve
never done anything like this; so I just hope I can do my best and have fun.”
Band performs at State

Fourteen band members traveled to Pittsburg on April 19 to be
critiqued.
They played the songs Korean Folk Song Medley and Gallant Marines in front
of three judges.
“I enjoyed the opportunity to perform the pieces we’ve been working
on diligently in front of judges,” said Emily Hauser, jr.
The band received comments about how they sounded, their dynamics and their
overall presence.
“We got some really good comments that will help build on music,”
said Shelby Huddleston, band director.
FFA attends banquet

FFA students attended the district banquet in Neodesha on April
19. Two students from Humboldt received first place awards for FFA.
At the banquet FFA students received awards for their individual efforts and
for their chapter as a whole. Jenell Baker, jr., received an award for getting
first at Dairy Foods and Food Science.
“I thought it was pretty cool to be recognized for my achievements at
the district banquet,” said Baker.
Also, Josh Gillespie, sr., was first at Dairy Cattle and received District
Sheep Production.
“We did very well; we received our National Chapter award,” said
Gillespie.
State FFA will be April 29 through May 1 in Manhattan. The team has been preparing
for the contests.
