Leo club and FFA
LEO club members had a highway trash pickup day on
Nov. 7. FFA members also participated in this event. Students from these
clubs volunteered to help keep the community clear of trash.
“Our trash pickup went well,” said Eric Carlson, LEO club sponsor. “We
had a pretty good turnout, and all of the students worked well.”
LEO also has future plans of working at the middle school basketball concessions
for fundraising, and they will participate in Adopt-a-Child for Christmas.
LEO will also be attending a midwinter rally held in Salina in January and
hopes to do more service projects in the spring semester.

Three members of the FFA traveled to Coffeyville on Nov. 4 to participate
in a horse judging event. They were Josh Honas and Josh Gillespie, srs.,
and Glendolyn Neely, fr.
“
I enjoyed this event because there was not a lot of pressure on me to do
well, and I still did all right,” said Honas. “I am going to
take what I learned from the event and use it in the State Horse Judging
contest that will be held in the spring.”
Neely placed fourth in the Horse Evaluation for FFA purposes. As a team, Humboldt
got fifth out of 20 teams and also had second highest score in reasoning.
Two make honor groups

Five members of the music department traveled to Prairie View High School
in LaCygne on Nov. 4. Katie Hauser, sr., Malachi Melton, so., and Dustin
Corban, sr., auditioned for district honor band while Alexis Hosack, fr.,
and Michelle Scoville, fr., tried out for district choir.
Corban and Hosack were selected for their respective honor groups. They will
perform on Dec. 2 at Altamont.
“
I was hoping to make it,” said Corban. “I believe that it is
a good experience worth going to, and it looks good on my resume.”
Both are looking forward to performing with other students.
“
I love to sing, and I know that this group is going to sound really good,” said
Hosack.
Members of the band also played at the Veterans’ Day parade in Iola
on Nov. 11.
“
I felt good about how we played,” said Andy Hill, so. “We were
the smallest band there.”
The band will be in the Parade of Lights in Chanute on Nov. 30. Both choir
and band are preparing for their winter concert. It will be on Dec. 14 in
the auditorium.
