Technology
New advances are beneficial

Technology has greatly advanced over the years, which has
made a lot of jobs and activities a lot easier.
Teenagers today like to have all the new trinkets and gadgets mainly because
they are something new and cool.
Everything changes with time and the amount and necessity of technology has
certainly changed. Now days most of the gadgets are essential, not only because
they are needed to look cool in school or with friends, but also because
they really are important to everyday life for many people.
“
Computers and cell phones are great forms of entertainment and communication.
Cell phones are good for emergencies, too,” said Samantha Kerns, sr.
The purpose of technological advances is to make things easier. Most new
technology can connect people more easily and can allow work to be done from
virtually anywhere.
Cell phones, laptops, computers and other gadgets all constitute a very important
part of many people’s lives. They are convenient sources of entertainment
and communication, and there is nothing wrong with teenagers having modern
technology in their possession. It can be a great way to expose them to the
outside world, and to prepare them for more technology to come.
“
Learning how to use our technology now will help us with our jobs in the
future,” said Ashley Tull, sr.
Many jobs and careers require the proper use of computers and other forms
of modern technology.
It is often helpful for younger kids to get involved with high tech gadgets
earlier in life so that they are accustomed to them when they get older and
are required to use them. This can make it a lot easier for them to do their
jobs later on since many careers involve using technology.
Life is more fast paced today, and mobile phones and Internet connections
help keep things moving as well as a vast selection of other technological
advances. These advances can be even more important during emergencies; it
is easier to contact family or medical personnel to help.
Kids and teenagers can spend a lot more time using new technology and using
it to their benefits.
It can help them be more creative by using a combination of older and newer
techniques.
Also, if teens are busy learning all the new forms of technology, perhaps
they will not be as busy doing other things they maybe should not be doing.
Altogether, technology is a beneficial advance in modern society, and it
is becoming more and more essential in modern day life.
Innovations can
be harmful

Since the industrial boom in the 1920’s, technology
has become more and more important to everyday life.
Due to the growing industry, many advances in technology have arrived.
The need for transportation brought vehicles into the market. The need for
more employees brought robots to do the work.
New forms of communication have been made. Yet, communication can sometimes
be bad. Important information can get into the wrong hands.
“
Technology is a great tool, but it has tremendous drawbacks. It can create
a bank of information that can be accessed by parties that are unauthorized
to use it. For example, identity theft which is becoming more and more common
in our society,” said Lance Carlson, social science teacher.
All of the new technology can be very helpful. However, there is a negative
side to all this technology.
Technology can harm the Earth. For example, when a city builds more roads
and continues to invest in construction projects, they tear up earth on location
and to get raw materials.
More people own vehicles that use the Earth’s oil, and it also causes
more pollution in the air.
Technology can cause stress in many people’s lives.
Young students and teenagers own cell phones these days. Students are caught
not paying attention in class and texting answers to tests. Cheating can
be much easier to a technology savvy student. Cell phones also cost money
and some teenagers run over their minutes and rack up their monthly bills.
New technology is formed so quickly that once teenagers can afford what they
have been wanting, something newer and better comes to the market.
It is hard on teenagers to keep up with the newest and “coolest” forms
of technology.
Some students feel like they have to have the newest and best items in order
to be seen as “cool” at school.
Not only does that stress the student out, but it may also affect their parents
because they may want their kids to have the things they really want and feel
they need, but many parents cannot afford them.
Life is often more fast paced today than it used to be. That can be attributed
to advances in technology. Now people rush to get things done and they do not
have to wait around for slower technology. While that may seem positive, it can
be negative as well. People may not take as much time to enjoy life and can have
health problems from the stress of a fast paced life.
All of these examples show how technology has negative effects on society.
