Editorial: Another year has passed for Tracks
By: Katie Hauser, jr.
For the Editorial Board

It is almost impossible to believe that this is the fourteenth issue of the CubTracks. That means that the year is almost at an end and this is the last issue that this group of editors, reporters, and ad designers will put out.

Throughout the school year, we as editors have worked to bring everyone each issue of the paper. Now, as the last issue is laid out, published, and read, it is a bittersweet time. This issue is the culmination of our year’s work, and after this issue is finished, we have nothing to do but prepare for next year.

Cartoon by Haley Huffman

The school year has gone quickly once again, and we have tried our best to keep up with everyone throughout the year. Students at Humboldt are very involved and many organizations have been busy all year. While covering all the activities has been a challenge, we have done our best to rise to the occasion.

Now, as summer nears, we are all struck with spring fever, so it may be a good thing that this is the last issue. Still, it is sad to think that once this issue has been read, it will be the end of this unique staff. We will all leave school for the summer, and some of us will not be back to work on the paper next year. We have had this last issue for one more time to work together to make the paper the best it can be before we are all separated.

One of the best things about spending all of our time working to bring everyone this paper is all the memories we have made. It is practically impossible to compile the schools’ memories without making our own that will last for years to come. We can only hope that some of our readers have created memories through us as well.

Some of us will be back to continue bringing the paper to its readers next year, and we will continue to teach others in the tradition of our paper so that it will always be something all the editors can be proud of.

Although we have to say goodbye for this year, we hope that everyone has enjoyed the work we have done. We wish everyone a safe summer until next year’s staff starts working on the paper next fall.

Staying active benefits students (pro)

Many people may believe that the best way to spend their summer would be to remain lazy and to relax. Such habits may hurt students in the end. Students can become accustomed to late nights, late mornings, and laying around all day, and they may drag their feet more than ever when school starts again.

During the summer, the most fulfilling way to spend time is to be active. Though some may not realize it, there are many summer activities that offer students such opportunities.

Clubs and organizations that students are involved in outside of school often continue throughout the summer. Some organizations even offer summer camps and day camps to students. Camps offer learning experiences and activities to make sure the campers’ time is both enjoyable and educational.

Summer sports give students the chance to stay competitive and active. This allows students to prepare themselves for the sports that they may participate in during the school year.

Local dance studios are also busy, preparing for their recitals during the early months of the season. Some studios even continue performing, traveling to competitions and conventions located in various locations during the summer.

Taking up a part-time summer job is another choice. Not only are students doing something constructive with their time, but they also receive a well-earned paycheck. This gives students another chance to practice responsibility. Perhaps they can use the payments as gas or weekly spending money. They can work toward a goal of their choice, such as saving money for a future car, college, or other various items. Either way, the student is still working hard.

With such a large amount of spare time, summer is a great opportunity for students to learn new hobbies or continue with hobbies that they lacked time for previously. Whatever the case, the variety of hobbies available to students is without a limit.

By maintaining a constant schedule of activities during the summer, students are healthier and can keep themselves in shape. Students have the opportunity to earn money and naturally become happier with the aid of exercise. For these reasons, students need to stay motivated, because they will thank themselves in the end.

Relaxing is best summer option (con)

Summer should be a time to kick back, relax, and enjoy the weather. However, a lot of kids have chores and jobs to do that require waking up early and not being able to fully take advantage of the summer.

During the summer, kids should be able to sleep in late, relax, and hang out with their friends and family members instead of having to wake up early and work. Students find ways to keep themselves motivated throughout the whole school year, so summer should be their break from everything and their time to sit around and be lazy.

Within a couple months, students will have to return to school and start homework and tests all over again, so during their break they should take advantage of the free time and go on vacation or just hang out around the house.

Summer jobs and household chores can consume a person’s complete summer pretty quickly. When students get older, most of them will have jobs that require them to work all year long. So while they are young and have the chance, they should fully take advantage of the summer time. After all, summer breaks will not be around forever.

The weather is warm and relaxing and everything about the summer makes people want to be lazy and not stressed out. Everyone should just relax and enjoy the nice weather because soon it will start to cool down. Once school starts again, students will no longer have the chance to go out and do something in the warm weather until next year comes around.

People often take summer for granted, and they should learn to enjoy themselves more. With everyone’s busy schedules they hardly leave any time to have fun and go out in the warm weather. They should find time to enjoy the weather and all of the activities that take place during the summer and stop stressing out about their busy lives. Summer should be about relaxing and everyone just being lazy and having fun. Working year-round and being busy no matter what the season can wait a few more years for most students.

Review: Game shows found on Internet now
By: Phillip Vernon, so.
News Editor

The Internet has become a very popular item in a very short amount of time. Some people may ask, “What can you do on the Internet that you cannot do out of a book?” One thing that can be done, and that also has become very popular, is the playing of games. It is impossible to get onto the Internet and not be tantalized by the vast variety of them.

Some of these new popular games include television shows such as NBC’s, ‘Deal or No Deal.’ Another includes a mocking of ABC’s, ‘Who Wants To Be A Millionaire,’ only the game is titled ‘Win A Million.’ Many of these games can be found on the host show’s website. For example, ‘Deal or No Deal’ is found on www.nbc.com. However, the game ‘Win A Million’ can be found at www.ebaumsworld.com.

Many different games test different skills that the player needs to win. For example, the game ‘Win A Million’ deals with the player’s knowledge of varying subjects, while the game ‘Deal or No Deal’ completely deals with the players luck. Absolutely no skill is involved in playing ‘Deal or No Deal’ on the Internet, which is exactly like the television show.

It seems that these days the popular Internet games are the ones that mock or imitate popular television shows. Other games like these include ‘Wheel of Fortune,’ a game off of the television show of the same name.

The only difference between the television show and the actual game is the absence of the television show host on the Internet game and money. Absolutely no hosts appear on any of the games listed in this story. For some, this may be disappointing that a poorly animated figure does not show up on their computer screen, while others may not even care. The showing of a host on the game can make it more realistic and fun for the player.

As players often are by themselves in a quiet room, the games can also lose the drama that the television shows are famous for, but they are still good substitutes.
