BIBLESTA BACKGROUND

The Biblesta Parade was originated in 1957 by Dr. Arthur Carlson, now of Overland Park, who presented the idea of the Chamber of Commerce. This year marks the 47th consecutive parade.

The name was coined by the late Vernon Hawyer as appropriate for this observances based on the Bible. On the first Sunday of October of each year, churches, clubs, businesses and individuals construct floats and/ or portray dramatic events from the Biblesta, which are arranged in chronological order, to provide a panorama of the bible.

One of the favorite entries is “ Jonah and the Whale”. The forty-foot whale has been presented in all but two years of the parade. It is no longer a competitive float, but remains one of the most fascinating to all visitors.

A variety of gospel music fills the day of celebration entertaining all ages from center stage in the beautiful City Square. The traditional bean feed takes place on the SW corner of the Square at 5 p.m. Volunteers of the local churches prepare and serve hundreds of pounds of beans for visitors.

Trophies and cash awards are presented to winning entries with the stipulation that the funds are given to a mission.

This is a community project and the Biblesta Committee wishes to express its appreciation to all of the people of Humboldt for their financial and spiritual support. A sincere “ thank you” to those who have entered a float or a window display and to the people whose labor went into them.

It is with pride, as well as humility, that Humboldt dedicates this day to the Lord. We trust that all who view the parade and share the musical programs with us will be strengthened and enriched for having been here today. Please enjoy your stay at Humboldt.
