Course Descriptions

Agricultural Education I

This one-year course severs as a building block to the world of agricultural knowledge. This class is a basic introduction to the FFA as well as advanced classes of animal science, plant and soil science, Ag business management, agricultural mechanics, and agricultural construction. Areas of study will include FFA information, livestock evaluation, crop analysis, leadership and human relations, agriculture careers, record keeping, and entry level skill in agricultural mechanics. After completion of this course students are provided with a background of information for a variety of occupational opportunities in agriculture.

Agricultural Education II

To take this full year course students must have completed Agriculture Education I. This second step in the Agriculture Education Program focuses on soils and soil management as well as an in depth look at food science, speech, horticulture, and metal fabrication. In this next step students will be introduced to the MIG welding as well as a more in depth oxyacetylene experience. Students will also begin to make projects in the shop.

Agricultural Education III

To take this full year course students must have completed Agriculture Education II. This third step in the Agriculture Education Program focuses on Entomology the “study of insects”, as well as meats, and public speaking. This course also takes an in depth look at the animal science industry by exploring Genetic and Animal Breeding as well as Animal Health. The shop part of this class focuses on learning how to use the plasma arc cutter as well as constructing larger projects that deal with the animal science industry. Examples of these would be working chutes, cattle panels, designing their own working facility. This course will focus on making sure all shop equipment can be used by the students.

Agricultural Education IV

To take this full year course students must have completed Agriculture Education III. This final chapter in the Agriculture Education Program focuses on a look to ones future, whether it be college or straight to the job market, this class will prepare an individual for an job interview. This class also will teach a student how to use PowerPoint as well as the stock market. This class also will create a research project which they will pick at the start of class and work on for the first semester finding data and reporting data on agriculture topic. Students will also work together on creating a new web page for the FFA.

Agricultual Mechanics

First semester will include skills in all agri-mechanic areas. Units to be included in agriculture mechanics are arc welding, oxyacetylene welding and cutting, tool maintenance, concrete, figuring bill of materials, and mig welding. Before project construction students must pass a mandatory safety exam. Second semester will be project construction.

7th Grade Agriculture

This is a semester long class of all the 7th graders. This class is designed to be strictly introductory, with emphasis on explaining agriculture and its purpose. Judging will be emphasized lightly as well as FFA information and speech.
