The Humboldt school system is organized on a 6-3-4 basis: grades K-5 are at the Elementary school, grades 6-7-8 are at the Middle school and grades 9-12 are at the High school. The total enrollment at U.S.D 258 is 501. There are 215 students in the Elementary School, 110 students in the Middle School, and 159 students at Humboldt High School.


Humboldt is located in Southeast Kansas in Allen County; 50 miles west of Fort Scott, 125 miles east of Wichita, 110 miles southwest of Kansas City, and halfway between Kansas City and Tulsa. Our town has a population of about 2,178.


The City of Humboldt operates the gas, water, sanitation, and trash pickup utilities. Western Resources operates the electrical distribution system and has an office in Humboldt. The city has a highly regarded volunteer fire department and a professional police department with personnel on duty 24-hours a day. A county-subsidized ambulance service also provides 24-hour a day coverage by volunteers.


In addition to many privately-owned small businesses, many residents are employed in agriculture and manufacturing, including the Monarch Cement Company, B & W Custom Truck Beds, Humboldt Industries, Wonder Bread and others.
